****New****
Book Progress: I have covered the time parameters from pre War to the Battle of Cedar Creek. This includes the Battles of  Cloyds Mountain (New River Campaign),  Lynchburg Campaign (Piedmont, Panther Gap, Lexington, and Lynchburg), Shenandoah Campaigns (Battles of Snickers Ferry,  New Creek, Barryville, 2nd Kernstown, 3rd Winchester or Opequon Creek,  Fishers Hill, Hupps Hill and Cedar Creek). I have some work finished for 1865. They include the capture of General Kelley and Crook. I will add the Petersburg Campaign (Hatcher's Run, Fort Whitworth/Fort Gregg), Appomattox Campaign  ( Battle of Long Bridge and Appomattox Court House). Since so little is written on the 11th, I am relying on Official Records, Anecdotes, letters, and journals.  I may have to rename the Book the 11th West Virginia, 3rd Brigade, Army of West Virginia since I do have some written records from other books. I am also including information on soldiers returning from the war, that is, medical issues, etc., (Loss of Limbs, etc.,)
Since I have not gotten many replies for stories or anecdotes for the writing.  I can and will edit these pages IF I receive more data on the 11th and its soldiers. PLEASE send me your ancestors stories.        John

I have been busy adding cemetery or location of death records. Since so many graves have been vandalized, grown over, or no longer recognizable (sandstones worn) , I have been very active finding many of the soldiers by the West Virginia Library death records on-line. I have tried to note each soldier found that way in the remarks section. I used their birth dates compared to the age of muster and found many that way. Hopefully there are no mistakes. Please email me if you have absolute proof otherwise.
Also I have been using the help of a Wirt County cemetery experts, Mr. Mark Bailey and his father, as well as the SUV Grave Registrations, Find-A-Grave site, and the CW indexes of soldiers and Roll of Honor. I have now posted 581 graves, photos and places of death.   John

See the added contributors page linked after this paragraph. Donations to keep this site active and free to all, I have asked (above) for any contributions. Already I have had a couple of responses. Thank you Mrs. Ann Newell for her generous contributions. Therefore in acknowledgement and thanks, I am commissioning these contributors [click].

Roster
The following rosters for each company were compiled from several sources. The main source was taken from the West Virginia Adjutant General's reports for 1864 and 1865. The 1865 report did not contain information after the winter of 1864-65, when the data for each company was submitted. Records added to this roster include the Descriptive logs for the 11th West Virginia (NARA), Pension records, Service Records, Medical Records, and various other geneological sources, such as the Special U.S. Veterans Census 1890. Information was also taken from the Roll of Honor: Civil War Union Veterans, CD#351, by Broderbund. I am sure that something may have been overlooked or missed, however, I have done my best to include all. Be sure to check all sections of the roster, that is, Discharges, Deaths, Transfers, and Desertions.

The State Flag of West Virginia
(Pictured is the 15th WV Infantry)
The 15th fought in the same Campaigns as the 11th, for the most part, and the flags would be similar. The 11th's flag was almost entirely destroyed in battle. Click the link above to learn about its making. The guide on flag is the actual guide on for the 11th and is also stored at the West Virginia Historical Museum.
